English Garden
In planning the landscaping for this lovely John Hudson Thomas-designed house, we worked closely with the homeowner who is well-versed in the art of traditional English gardens. The result perfectly complements the distinguished architecture.
Three “garden rooms” are woven together with the repeated use of bluestone paving and stained woodworking that matches the house trim.
An entry garden, defined by a green wall of California buckthorn, and bounded by a citrus court, creates a private front entrance. The home’s dining room, library and kitchen look over an informal gravel courtyard with stone walls and a hornbeam hedge. While the rear garden overlooks a wild canyon dominated by a majestic, single heritage live oak tree.
The landscape design is completed by the homeowner’s collection of stone-carved sculptures and basins.
